For Rising 10th-12th Graders

This course will focus on equipping students with the skills to be safe, defensive drivers. This class is not intended to teach students to drive "from scratch." Students are expected to practice driving as soon as they have their permit to maximize the learning from their in-class driving sessions. Classroom work will include an in-depth discussion on the effects of alcohol and drugs on drivers, as well as the dangers of distracted drivers. Students will participate in simulated driving situations and actual behind-the-wheel practice and may choose to take the Alabama Driver’s test. The class also includes a mini-course on boating safety, and students will have an opportunity to take the Alabama Boating Basics test to qualify to receive a valid Alabama Boater’s endorsement.

Choose from one of five classroom sessions offered during Summer@Springs 2024. Behind-the-wheel instruction will be scheduled throughout June and July based on calendar availability. Due to high demand and limited availability, we cannot switch dates once you choose your session date. Students must attend one of the classroom sessions and complete all coursework. This is a pass/fail class. This class is non-refundable.

PLEASE NOTE: Student participants MUST have a valid Alabama Driver’s Permit in order to enroll in this course. This class is not intended to be the first time a student gets behind the wheel. Students should practice their driving as soon as they receive their permit.
