This course will focus on the general aspects of environmental science and sustainable technology. Students will learn field and laboratory techniques used for environmental studies. We also will measure the biological and chemical quality of local waterways. Moreover, we will identify and analyze trees, plants, microorganisms, invertebrates, local fish, birds, amphibians, and reptile species.
This course will also develop and advance student understanding of the relationships among soil type, water quality, and the presence of specific types of animals and plants due to those factors. Discussions will also include introductions to sustainable technologies and impacts of anthropogenic influence on nature. There will be a field trip to Moss Rock Preserve midway through the week and the Botanical Gardens at the conclusion of the week. Field trip days will be three hours long, and campus focused classes will last two hours.
