For Rising 6th–12th Graders
This course will focus on ecological components of streams, lakes, wetlands, and swamps from the molecular to the organismal level. Each day will consist of brief lectures and field exercises, including non-destructive animal and plant collection techniques and ecosystem health assessment. Fieldwork components will include collecting invertebrates to calculate biotic indices from streams around Indian Springs and measuring chemical components of water quality. There will be a field trip to Shades Creek or Turkey Creek midway through the week, as well as a trip to Ebenezer swamp the final day of class. Field trip days will be three hours long, and campus focused classes will last two hours.
