For Rising 10th–12th Graders

This course will focus on equipping students with the skills to be safe, defensive drivers. In-course work will include in-depth discussion on the effects of alcohol and drugs on drivers, as well as the dangers of distracted drivers. Students will participate in simulated driving situations and actual behind-the-wheel practice and may choose to take the Alabama Driver’s test. The class also includes a mini-course on boating safety, and students will have an opportunity to take the Alabama Boating Basics test to qualify to receive a valid Alabama Boater’s endorsement.

Choose from three one-week sessions during Summer@Springs 2019. Times listed reflect in-class work. Driving times will be arranged with small groups of 2-3 students as schedules permit during the week of the course and will continue as schedules permit during the summer.

Please note: Student participants need to have a valid Alabama Driver’s Permit in order to take part in behind-the-wheel practice driving.

John Milton, Instructor

Summer is a great time for busy students to focus on their driving skills. This course ends with an invaluable opportunity to take the Alabama Driver’s Road Test as part of the class, giving teens the chance to take the test with an instructor they know, and cutting down on time in line at the DMV."
